Credentials

I earned a master’s degree in Health Education from East Carolina University, where I graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA. I have also received several health certifications, two of which are highlighted below:

 Certified Health Education Specialist

I have received the national-level credential for health educators, known as the CHES®. In addition to completing a rigorous competency-based examination, this certification signals a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement of my skill set as a health educator.

As a CHES, I am trained in research methodologies, epidemiology, program planning and evaluation, health behavior theories, community organizing and needs assessment, the implementation of community health programs, conducting research, and public health policy change.

National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach

I have received board certification as a health coach, which signifies that I have attended an approved training program and passed a rigorous examination issued by the National Board of Medical Examiners. I completed my health coach training through Duke Integrative Medicine in Durham, NC.

As a board-certified coach, I draw from the principles of motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry, and positive psychology. The coaching process is evidence-based and facilitates sustainable change.

My Life

I became interested in lifestyle medicine when I studied national data as a public health student. I saw the prevalence of so many preventable conditions. The data in favor of lifestyle medicine were so compelling that I knew I had to try it for myself and share the great news with others. My health is better now, and I feel honored to help others in their health journeys too.

I live in Raleigh, NC with my husband and three daughters. I speak Spanish and enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, and traveling. (Banff National Park, as seen in the picture, is especially beautiful!)

Fun fact: My favorite TV show is the original MacGyver series. I once traveled to Vancouver, BC to meet Richard Dean Anderson in person!
